VARO is convinced that both building new infrastructure and repurposing existing infrastructure will play a key role to the acceleration of the energy transition.
Daily manufacturing hub capacity of circa 176,000 barrels has established VARO as an experienced, safe and reliable operator.
We own and operate the Cressier manufacturing hub, in Switzerland, and own a 51.4% share in the o Bayernoil manufacturing hub in Germany. Bayernoil is currently one of Europe’s largest and most modern refineries. Our manufacturing asset base is expected to grow as VARO invests in Sustainable Energies.
We will repurpose all our conventional energies infrastructure into sustainable energies production and distribution hubs. It is our commitment towards the local communities and their valuable capabilities.
The Cressier manufacturing hub
The Cressier manufacturing hub is currently the only operating conventional energies producer in Switzerland and accounts for approximately 25 percent, by volume, of all fuels sold nationally.
The manufacturing hub has been built in 1966 and has been through major upgrades in 1976, 1993, 2000 and 2021.
Thanks to numerous initiatives over the years, we have already reduced our CO2 emissions by 150,000 tons per year and expect to reduce them by another 300,000 tons per year within the next few years.
- We are currently building the largest ground-mounted solar farm (7.7MW) in Switzerland near the refinery together with our partner Groupe E, a local utility. It will be able to provide 60% of the refinery electricity needs at peak.
- We are partnering with Groupe E to supply rest-heat to the local district heating network and heat thousands (+5,000) of households in the vicinity.
- We will produce biofuels on-site from waste oils, decarbonize our hydrogen production, etc.
