We are pleased to announce that Hugues Bourgogne will join VARO as Executive Vice President, Operations, Projects, and Infrastructure, and as a member of the Executive Board, effective March 10, 2024. Hugues will be based in our head office in Baar.

As we expand our asset footprint with transformative projects, the key to delivering on our ambitions will be safe and reliable operations, efficiency, and commercial optimisation.

Hugues brings proven expertise and an exceptional track record from his distinguished 32-year career at Shell. Currently serving as Executive Vice President, Safety, Environment & Asset Management, he leads a global organization of 3,000 people, including 800 subject matter experts and an excellence group focused on safety, operational excellence, and decarbonization across all business segments. His previous roles include Vice President Manufacturing, General Manager of the Bukom Refinery and Petrochemicals site in Singapore, General Manager of the Shell Convent Refinery in Louisiana, USA, and Senior Manager for Mergers, Acquisitions & Divestments at Shell International, focusing on Downstream Europe. He holds degrees in chemical engineering from UTC in France and a Master of Mechanical Engineering from the University of Houston.

Hugues will oversee the safe and reliable operations of our manufacturing hubs and terminals, driving efficiency and shaping the progressive transformation of our infrastructure. His leadership will be instrumental in supporting VARO’s growth and transformation journey.
