Our CEO, Dev Sanyal participated in the ONS Conference 2024 in Stavanger, a major global energy event centered on "Shaping the New Energy Landscape." The theme for this year’s Conference, "Imagine," was deliberately chosen to inspire innovative thinking and challenge conventional wisdom. As the world confronts escalating challenges such as climate change, geopolitical conflicts, and ongoing energy poverty, the Conference underscored the urgent need to envision new solutions. With an estimated 250 to 300 million new energy consumers each year and up to 1.5 billion people still lacking full access to basic energy needs, the stakes could not be higher.
During the panel entitled “New Value Chains,” our CEO spoke about VARO’s approach to the energy transition – in his terms "optimistic pragmatism."
At VARO Energy, optimistic pragmatism means:
- Forming strategic partnerships with customers, companies and suppliers to deliver new solutions, leveraging existing infrastructure and our team's expertise to optimise costs and accelerate timelines.
- Working with regulators to ensure the right investment and commercial framework to create scale and drive pace.
- Adopting a practical approach to technology by using proven technical solutions with well-established licensors, following a rigorous stage-gate process in our projects, and scaling up only when the technology proves successful both technically and commercially.
- Embracing a ‘through-cycle’ approach by deploying capital in a systematic, value accretive way while ensuring disciplined execution.
